Riviera Maya

Riviera Maya

The Riviera Maya is located on Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula along the Caribbean coastline. The region is known for its gorgeous beaches and all inclusive resorts in Playa Del Carmen and Yoga vibe in Tulum.

It has been a dream of mine to visit and finally did it for my 35th birthday! Coming from the brutal cold in NYC, I rushed at the opportunity to sun worship each and everyday and indulged in world class cuisine and picturesque beauty. The ocean is crystal clear and the food some of the freshest culinary delights I have ever tasted! Oh, and don’t forget the tequila Por Favor!

Travel Tip: Stay 5 days minimum! Ideally 7, because there is too much to see and not worth being rushed!

Accommodations

The Vidanta Grand Mayan Riviera Maya is a gorgeous (and gigantic) property along the coast with Mayan-inspired decor and spacious suites. The property is in fact so large you need shuttles to get around. However, don’t let that intimidate you. I found myself more amped to walk the grounds to interact with all the amazing wildlife like the adorable Coati (Mexican raccoon) and stumble upon more swimming pools and trails.
The resort features Nicklaus Par Three Golf, Brio Spa, morning yoga on the beach, Mayan Jungle, and a plush Beach Club. Not to mention all the restaurant options, with my favorite being the boho chic food village of Salum where you can find tasty queso and tacos or even sushi! For the holidays the resort is all lit up in Christmas decor making it a favorable destination during the holidays.  View More

Dining

Ahau Tulum is a rustic, natural, yet lush oceanfront sanctuary with accommodation, wellness and fresh fare. You can’t visit the Riviera Maya without visiting Tulum and experiencing the magic for yourself.
I chose to have my birthday dinner at this luxury beach hotel featuring Mexican Caribbean-style cuisine. The staff welcomed us with open arms and much love. We felt like family as soon as we sat down. Not to mention all the food is made on site with local ingredients and every bite is so fresh and aromatic. The standout dishes were the tuna tostadas…I could eat two orders to myself! Oh, and don’t forget to try the fresh Ceviche! After dinner, do yourself a favor and put your feet in the velvet sand and step into the warm Caribbean waters.  View More

Activities

Smooth Life Catamaranes in Puerto Morelos is such an amazing day excision on the water on a large sailboat. The crew is super fun and accommodating and the price is reasonable for the time you get on the water and activities. We chose a private boat which averages approx $80 more per person but didn’t have to worry about people being on the boat we didn’t like.
The highlight is snorkeling along the reef getting lost in the beauty of the turquoise waters and marine life. Drinks are included but don’t go overboard, pun intended. The sunset is like no other so take a deep breath, shot of tequila, and enjoy the ride!  View More
